Balfour
Balfour sits on the west bank of beautiful Kootenay Lake with the Selkirk mountain range as its backdrop. Back in 1889 it was staked as a townsite by Charles Busk, an Englishman who envisioned Balfour becoming a centre for farming. It never did become an agricultural community but instead has survived through the years primarily as a popular resort for fishermen. Today, the area has a population of 1200 and more than 60 businesses operate from within the community.
Balfour is a fabulous place for a vacation! Situated halfway between Nelson and Kaslo, it is the home of the ferry that claims the title of “longest free ferry ride in the world.” The local folk are extremely friendly, and will smile at you, help when needed and do their best to make sure your holiday is pleasant and memorable.
A golfer’s paradise, Balfour Golf Course is the Kootenays’ best kept golfing secret – a glorious challenge! For family oriented entertainment try Eagleview’s 9 hole par 3 course or the undulating terrain of their 18 hole real grass putting course.
Whether you most enjoy fishing, boating, water sports, hiking, camping or just relaxing on the beach, Balfour has something for you to discover.
There is a wide variety of accommodations available for every budget range, as well as fine and casual dining venues. Get away from it all to enjoy this vibrant but relaxing community along the shore of Kootenay Lake. Balfour is a great place to stay and play.
